My client is a long established design and manufacturing company of unique, original and quality gift ideas. They offer a wide variety of products which will make people laugh and which they will definitely remember!
They are a specialist distributor in the UK and Ireland and supply to department stores, mail order companies, card shops, websites and many independent retailers. They urgently require an all round graphic designer that can be creative and technical to work on all formats of design including digital, print and product.
The successful applicant’s main duties will be to assist in all aspects of the company’s new product development from original ideas through to final production, working alongside and under the supervision of senior product development personnel. Other duties will be assisting in the preparation of the company’s sales catalogue, assisting in the preparation for trade shows, updating and maintaining the company’s website, preparing sales material/ general support for the sales team, preparing labels and general support for the production/ dispatch team. In addition, the job requires the management and maintenance of all the company’s media.
The successful applicant will be able to work on his / her own initiative and also be able to work alongside and under the supervision of others. Teamwork is essential within the department and in the company as a whole. You will need to develop good organizing skills, a logical approach to the progression of work and to problem solving, and have a good eye for detail. The job will also involve liaising with artists, designers, photographers, printers and suppliers in the UK and abroad. Computer graphics skills are required, with a good knowledge of Adobe applications and in particular Photoshop and Illustrator.
New Product Development duties include:
- Liaising with other graphic designers, packaging designers, artists and photographers in the preparation of product design and packaging design.
- Help to create designs / concepts for new products.
- Update /amend designs on existing product ranges.
- Hand making samples where required eg. prior to production, for trade shows or customers.
- Preparing the final artwork in preparation for ordering. Adding company’s requirements.
- Proofing and correcting final artwork and components.
- Arrange for pre-production samples and chase up when required.
- Checking that the proofs and pre -production samples are correct.
- Confirming carton sizes, markings, shipping method and delivery schedule.
- Ensuring all details are correct before orders are placed.
- Q. C checking first batch of goods on arrival.
- Assistance in product sourcing
Sales Catalogue duties include:
- Working with designers, photographers and printers to prepare and produce the company’s catalogues and sales leaflets.
- Preparing final edition and sending to printer.
- Proofing and checking detail and ensuring delivery times are met.
- Checking goods on arrival.
Trade Show Preparation duties include:
- Preparing samples and graphics required for shows.
- Compiling new additions sheets where necessary.
Website maintenance duties include:
- Gathering necessary information and uploading to website to ensure up to date maintenance.
There are many more aspects to this role including artworking, marketing and more but this role will be suitable for a creative individual who likes variety and innovation.
The ideal candidate, will be creative, and be a good all-rounder with a good eye for detail. A minimum of two years experience in designing and producing graphic related work is required as well as the usual software requirements. You will have a portfolio of previous work and must have a good sense of humor!

IN HOUSE DESIGNER IS SOMETHING WHICH I WOULD LIKE TO DO I LIKE WORKING IN TEAMS AND MY GRAPHIC STYLE HAS HUMOUR AND WANT TO CREATE LABELS FOR PRODUCTS THIS JOB SOUNDS PRITTY PERFECT! IM ALWAYS WARY WETHER TO APPLY NOW THOUGH INCASE I GET IT AND AM STILL AT UNI!! Looking for jobs now is my main priority for the time being and almost will be a must when i have handed my module in today i got a phone call from a friend in warrington who is currently working for an engineering company they have asked her if she knows of any graphic designers and she has recommeneded me! AMAZING I will be working throughout the summer on a tempory contract re designing all the promotional material for the company I will be the only graphic designer their and this is the part which worries me as i want to learn more rather than think I know it all! preparing files to send to the printers is a daring task to take on im unsure if i will be too over my head......
HALLMARK Ever since starting uni I have wanted a placement at tigerprint always being feared of my work not being upto standard and them always potentially taking on surface pattern designers I have failed go through with applying...should just try really! I was on twitter the other day which is purley profeesional manner and seen they weere advertising for a graphic designer I need to just apply yet never think im good enough whihc is something I will have to get over I cannot keep thinking like that! I thinkl it would just be amazing to work there and get paid rather than just getting the exoerience.

-After my design strategy presentation I feel like im going on track and want to pursue my career I have decided that I want to gain experience in a range of studios when I leave and also lend a hand to do some freelance. I dont really like the idea of working a 9-5 yet I think this could change over time! I really want to get that buzzz back and enjoyment from what I do being an illustrator is really fun yet I see it unreliable as a career move therefore will pursue this just as freelance and more of a hobby I think. I love being involved in things such as book fairs exhibitions and shows so would do these in my free time to ensure my illustration skills are only getter better.
